My Blog

A place where I share my process, my work, ideas and have conversations with like minded souls.

What is the point of making art?

Thank you for all your feedback on my last post. So nice to hear from you and now I know that I am not sitting here typing away sharing ideas and thoughts into some black hole.

You know that blogging IS absolutely making a comeback. I have talked about this in previous posts and I follow all the blogs that are talking about how blogging is making a comeback. I’ll list the bloggers who are promoting this, like me, in a future post

Connecting when you make art is epic. You HAVE to find a way to share and get feedback and “build relationships” - even if they are virtual. And we are so discovering since covid that connecting virtually (as I have discovered in my professional daytime life) IS absolutely possible.

If you are not “connecting” when you make art (maybe because your closest friends and family don’t actually get it ) then what is the point of making art. In my opinion, you can absolutely make art for the sake of the process and absolutely enjoy every minute of that process in isolation - but, again, in my opinion, the point of art making is to share - and to make people feel the same way you do when you are creating that piece of art - whatever it is.

To me, the difference between instagram and facebook, and blogging - is that in blogging, I feel like I am actually “talking with someone/someones/people who care/ people who are interested/anyone. When I post on instagram, (and I do, because you almost have to when you are involved in social media,) I feel like I am posting into a black hole with no one to talk to.

For instance, did you see this post on instagram below, about the new bookmarks I am making. You may have, but on instagram what’s the point of leaving a comment as we quickly scroll through every artist, every meaningless reel and move on - here I hope you will be more likely to be inspired as I am, because I hope, like me, you will be absolutely in love with these stitched bookmarks, as an example!

I am always working on something new - some make it to instagram - some make it to the shop - and sometimes I just want to share the idea, the process or just talk about what you are doing. That’s the difference between blogging and posting on instagram. I love talking and sharing with you - you are my best inspiration!
