Summer meanderings
How is your summer going ? I’ve been busy with a myriad of different things and there have been flowers involved as well. Our land was landscaped before we bought the property and it has been really fun watching as all the different areas bloom at different times.
I spend my days in the backyard in the early morning when the sun is not too hot and then move to the front porch in the afternoon to get some shade. Either way our summers are just way too short not to enjoy every minute outdoors.
Although I usually meander between different projects moving from one to the other, but lately I have been absolutely obsessed with crochet. Mostly crochet flowers .. and crochet lace and trying to learn how to master crocheting. I keep trying different patterns and its funny because I am never sure how they will turn out and whether or not it will be the kind of flower I want to make. I have unravelled many a flower for sure but below are the ones I like = frilly and lacy.
And speaking of frilly and lacey, I can’t believe I actually completed this piece below which will be turned into a purse somehow - I haven’t figured that all out yet but apparently I need to reproduce this for the back - yikes!. I’ll keep you posted. I used an app called Loopcraft to guide me through the steps and I don’t think I would have been able to get through it without that app. Look it up on your phone if you are a new crocheter - not sure if its available for laptop.
I’ve also had this beading project in mind for quite some time and it is slow going. The idea is to bead this piece of fabric (I used sturdy muslin) which is no larger than 4.5 × 7.5 inches and then use it to face this metal purse frame (which I found on Amazon here ) to make a beaded clutch.
And I have to say I am loving the process of doing this beading. It’s sort of like a puzzle where you have to fit the right bead in the right place to keep it dense and have the fabric completely covered. There were similar things like this on instagram which is where I got the inspiration but I did not see anyone trying to bead an entire purse bead by bead probably because I am the only one this crazy.
I added the closeup below so that you can see the density of the beads.
Finally, some things I am particularly liking these days just because it’s fun to check out someone elses’ links : )
Crochet ideas (of course) here
Frida Madeleine on instagram has beautiful fabric bags. You can also see them on the website here
Beautiful embroidery by Maria Zalee here and just the entire website and blog posts are beautiful
Since I am really into amulets (or what I call amulets these days) I also love looking at these pieces on big cartel by Mazu - Mazu means sea goddess btw
Let me know what’s inspiring you these days and what you are up to.
